SEVERAL new faces, but more importantly young blood with fresh ideas, were voted into the Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) at their Biennial General Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on the 2nd April.
Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja'afar, as expected, was returned unopposed as MCA president, while C. Sivanandan retained the post of secretary after he saw off C. Mahendran in a straight fight.
The battle for the deputy president's post, the highlight of the voting, was won by former treasurer P. Krishnasamy who beat former vice-president Datuk Dr Amarjit Singh in another two-horse race.
Two new vice-presidents - Mahinda Valipuram, who ousted incumbent Dr Jaspal Singh and newcomer Datuk Shanta Kumar - were also voted in. Mahinda is the managing director of Silverstate Cricket Club, who are heavily involved in grassroots development of cricket in the country.
New blood was also injected into the fund managing department with Jeffrey Davidson being voted in as treasurer after he defeated B. Satgunasingam. Davidson, an accountant, fills in the vacancy left by Krishnasamy and he will be under close scrutiny to see how he balances the books as MCA are in the red.
Three new council members were also voted. Sarawak's secretary V. Vijayalingam, Penang Cricket Association president V. Murali and Federal Territory secretary R. Suppiah take over from N. Balachandran, N. Balasingam and veteran N. Rasanayagam. Lt Col Gerard Singam was the only incumbent re-elected.
