The Malaysian Cricket Association president Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Jaafar was unopposed at the close of nominations last Saturday.Imran, who has been at the helm of the national cricket body since 1992, thus retains his position for a two-year term. The president's position was the only post uncontested, as all the other positions will see contest at the BGM, which will be held at Wisma OCM this Saturday.Imran will have a new number two, as P. The incumbent Deputy President Dato' Abdul Azim Bin Mohd Zabidi opted not to defend his seat so as to concentrate on his position as the Treasurer of UMNO and Chairman of Bank Simpanan Nasional.Amarjit has also been nominated to defend his Vice President post together with another incumbent Dr. Jaspal Singh. The duo however will face a contest, as also in the fray are SSCC Ventures Managing Director Mahinda Vallipuram and HSS Integrated Managing Director Dato Shanta Kumar.

For the Hon. Secretary position, the incumbent C. Sivanandan is challenged by C. Mahendran, the former cricket convenor of Royal Selangor Club. Sivanandan, a former schoolteacher from Kedah, is also the Executive Secretary of MCA assumed the post of Hon. Secretary at the BGM two years ago. It will be a straight fight between Jeffrey Davidson, an accountant by profession and B. Satgunasingam for the Hon. Treasurer position vacated by Krishnasamy. There are eight candidates vying for the four positions as members of the Executive Committee. While Charlie Chelliah has opted not to seek re-election and Satgunasingam going for the Hon. Treasurer position, incumbents Lt. Col Gerard Singam and N. Rasanayam will be trying to defend their positions.Up against them are V.Vijayalingam (Sarawak) V.Murali (Penang), N.Balachandran (Perak), N. Balasingam (Selangor), R.Suppiah (Kuala Lumpur) and Paul Kwong Kum Wah who is the president of Silver State Cricket club.
